Digital Lighthouse is the result of a research and development project in the field of 3D computer graphics promoted in 2013 by Geocart S.p.A., a ground-breaking engineering company dealing with terrestrial and aerial remote sensing, aerospace technologies, ICT, and multidisciplinary planning. Geocart started from the experience acquired in its business sector and has now identified innovative techniques for virtual simulation and the reconstruction of accurate 3D digital models of natural environments, sites of interest, sets, architectures and object, by exploiting the data obtained through remote sensing. The result achieved was the enhancement of the production of visual effects for the cinema, digital reconstruction of the cultural and natural heritage, and development of video games, virtual tours, and multimedia libraries.
In the company’s name itself lies the will to become a reference point in this new technological era. The company's name combines two words: “lighthouse”, which is the name of the first sensor tested in the field of the project for sensing activities aimed at reconstructing accurate 3D models and “digital”, the new era which is marking an epochal change in all sectors, especially in those of information, cinema, and multimedia.
